Aim
Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Lebanon’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC (TNC): Update Lebanon’s national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory report and mitigation and adaptation plans. Lebanon’s First Biennial Update Report (BUR): Strengthen the institutional capacity to update GHG inventory preparation and progress of mitigation actions. National Action Programme to Mainstream Climate Change into Lebanon’s Development Agenda: Support the Lebanese government to move towards a low carbon climate resilient development strategy. Low Emission Capacity Building Program – Lebanon (LECB): Improve Lebanon’s relevant processes to develop capacities to achieve low emission development.
Achivement
- Preparation of the GHG inventory and mitigation options for the Land-Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry, Agriculture and Waste sectors in Lebanon for the years 2005-2012; - Establishment of the Climate Change Coordination Unit (CCCU) composed of 40 representatives from ministries, academic institutions, international organizations and non-governmental organizations; - Installation of rainwater harvester systems on agricultural greenhouse tops in three locations in Lebanon; - Development of 13 Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) ideas in coordination with all relevant stakeholders. - Launching of the climate change website
