The link
between protected areas and tourism is as old as the history
of protected areas. Protected areas need tourism, and tourism
needs protected areas. Though the relation between sustainable
tourism and protected areas is complex and sometimes
adversarial, tourism is always a critical component to
consider in the establishment and management of protected
areas. When visiting a site, tourists should provide some
support for the management of the protected area and respect
the following regulations:
Whenever on site, kindly
Refrain from:
- Smoking
- Lighting campfires, or any type of fire
- Hunting
- Flower picking and flora/fauna collection
- Camping (unless in specific areas)
- Littering
-
Introducing pet animals
- Tree or shrub cutting
- Driving
- Fishing
- Walking randomly
- Grazing cattle
- Disturbing the wildlife
- Listening to loud music
Always try to:
- Keep the site clean
- Protect animals and specially nests when founded
- Limit access at night during nesting and breeding season
- Turn off the lights
- Stay on officially designated trails
- Respect the reserve’s indications |
